Multi-million-pound conspiracy to defraud acquittal after 6-month trial

Richardson Lissack was instructed by an individual who was the Director of one of many companies allegedly involved in a complex multi-million pound VAT and duty evasion fraud, and was a prosecution brought by HMRC at Wood Green Crown Court.

It is alleged that our client, who was a director of a company that owned petrol stations, fraudulently evaded payment of VAT to HMRC in respect of sales of fuel.  In furtherance to this, it is alleged that our client, along with the other defendants supplied bio-oil in place of regular diesel to its customers which was sold at the same price as regular diesel, but the VAT paid to HMRC was the equivalent of that which is attracted by bio-diesel.  This case has been described by the prosecution as a systematic attack on the Crown.

Our client was found Not Guilty on all 7 of the 9 counts which he faced. 5 of the 7 other defendants who faced trial were convicted.
